There are times when we will need to remove a tooth. You may have experienced damage to your teeth. You may have too many teeth that are causing overcrowding. If you have a bad enough disease, you may also need to have a tooth removed.
Prior to the extraction, we will numb the area with a local anesthesia. It is normal to have a little bit of bleeding, which will actually help the area heal. Your body will form a blood clot where the root was, starting the healing process.
It is very important that you care for your mouth properly after the procedure. We will go over all of the aftercare prior to the procedure, giving you time to ask us any questions that you may have.
Your mouth needs to heal properly, so there are some things that you should avoid because they can aggravate your mouth. You shouldn’t drink through a straw. When you eat, you should watch what you are eating. You may need to eat soft foods for a few days until your mouth feels better. You should avoid smoking.
You should continue to brush and floss your teeth, just use care around the extraction site. We may recommend over-the-counter pain medication if needed, but we may also prescribe something if you need it.
